Relationships: The How and Why of Relationships and What Makes Us Tick by Frankie Hudson
As in Frankie Hudson's previous book "We Can Work It Out" she draws on my many years’ experience as counsellor and trainer to encapsulate here those aspects of relationships familiar to us all, both irritating and amusing.
Her simple drawings seem to resonate usefully with everybody who picks up her book, taking them to a deeper level of awareness and understanding. Frankie uses metaphors and drawings to clarify uncomfortable moments, misunderstandings and situations in which we often find ourselves; each one may well reflect in some part our individual circumstances; and help us understand both ours and others’ responses and reactions.
The accompanying texts are unthreatening, accessible, thought-provoking and gently challenging without judgment or jargon, offering ideas and encouragement for moving forward or changing direction, if and when we feel invited to do so.
Each drawing stands alone; they could also be seen as a journey, providing insight into our relationships and our reactions to others, as well as theirs to us. Frankie's approach is straight-forward and, hopefully, compassionate, showing clearly that how we relate to others - to stuff, to the world, to ourselves and to our habits - is key to our mental and physical wellbeing.
